Campus Safety Services Officers

All officers complete the St. Lawrence University Security Officer Academy https://www.stlawu.edu/safety-security/security-officer-academy, a week-long, live-in training academy held at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Officers also attend workshops and seminars for ongoing training.

CSS officers do not have powers of arrest but cooperate with local law enforcement agencies. CSS and the Williamstown Police Department monitor each other’s radio transmissions.

CSS officers patrol the College’s buildings and grounds and, in many cases, are the first to respond to emergencies on campus. All officers are first responder trained. CSS officers provide mutual aid to the local police, ambulance, or fire department.

CSS officers enforce College rules and regulations, issue parking tickets, respond to fire alarms, card access door alarms, and intrusion alarms. Officers also investigate accidents and complaints and provide transportation for sick or injured students.

In addition, CSS officers provide many routine services to the community, including the unlocking of rooms for authorized members of the student body, faculty, or staff. Non-emergency requests for service or assistance may be delayed while officers respond to emergency calls.

During the academic year, the department provides a student security monitor patrol and escort service during evening hours.
