Diane Miller

In Memory of Diane A. Miller

May 7, 1958 – February 3, 2019

Diane came to Williams 30 years ago and worked in several areas of the college, including Dining Services. She also managed the Williams College Employees Federal Credit Union before eventually joining Campus Safety and Security full-time. A devoted member of the CSS team, her colleagues remember her as cheerful, friendly and positive even under the most stressful circumstances. “Diane was a very kind-hearted individual,” says her longtime co-worker and friend Julie Fairchild, CSS communications supervisor. “She always put others before herself.”
Colleagues shared stories of Diane’s commitment to helping others. She enjoyed being part of a team, both at work and in her personal life, and was always willing to lend a hand however needed. She thought of CSS as her second home. “Diane often talked about her ‘family’,” says Director of Campus Safety and Security Dave Boyer, who knew Diane since childhood. “When you’re part of a small group like CSS, you become an extended family. She will be greatly missed.” Diane was part of a small and hardworking dispatch team, and I hope everyone will join me in supporting our CSS colleagues at a time of personal and professional loss.
Born May 7, 1958, in North Adams, daughter of Frank Wiles Sr. and Phyllis Dorothy Wiles of Williamstown, Diane attended local schools. She married Norbert Miller in 1977 and had two children, Jill and Chad. When away from work she enjoyed doting on her grandson, Wesley, and traveling throughout the Northeast on a Harley-Davidson. She also never missed a “girl’s night out” with her CSS colleagues, who would gather on occasion for Mexican food and strawberry margaritas.
Diane is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband and children; brothers, Frank, Alan and David; sisters, Elizabeth Garcia and Nancy Griffin; her grandson; and numerous other family members.
